There’s a massive south swell battering the Coffs coast this morning. Way too big for most of our beaches to handle. Wanna surf today you’ve got a few options: 1. Paddle out at one of the semi protected corners and try and score 3 or 4 bomb sets before getting washed a shore (be prepared to cop a flogging). 2. Go surf one of the novelty waves inside the harbour (its only smallish but there is the odd wedge throwing up for the patient ones) 3. Drive way outta town looking for spots that can handle this sized swell. I was talking to a mate this morning about the possibility of the Coffs council building a reef to protect the Harbour from big swells and in turn provide a epic surf spot for the Coffs surfers… sounds like some good theories behind the whole deal. I will flow more info about this proposal as I get it, but if it did go ahead we would have a solid 4th option for days like today. Such a shame all this good swell goes to waste around here.
swell, offshore winds, salt spray, golden morning light all mixed up together and producing some energy in the briny early today
option 2: novelty wave inside the harbour – was a popular option
Harbour gull
Warick Appleton was one of the only to take Option 1 and went for the paddle-a-thon. This one was shot as he came through the inside, way bigger on the outside bankĀ
Bare feet and shorts for this fella… are you kidding me??? it was like 3 degrees when I took this pic!!
Few more shots from this morning HERE
