windy woopi 30th april

Wind blown and wintery conditions were dished up to the Woolgoolga boardriders comp yesterday. A strong southerly wind and sloppy ocean did little to deter another massive turnout by the northern beaches shredders. The super grom division had the biggest showing yet, with families making the drive from Wooli!! It was probably the worst conditions the club has had for 2 years but the surfing was still red-hot and everyone was having a blast…. the kids are frothing!!

Mark Merrikin was in Lombok a few days ago.. he came back just in time to take out the opens division yesterday

Lyndo and Tom checking out the heat draws

Chris Knight’s pocket hack into the wind

These are the eyes of a future womens champion. 8 year old Carly from Wooli blew everyone away yesterday… surfing out the back and shredding her way through to the inside with the longest rides of any division, full cutbacks, speed runs, reo’s. I couldn’t believe my eyes… a sponsor will surely jump on this girls talents real soon!! Click here to check out a short clip of her surfing on her backhand…. let me tell ya she’s even more impressive on her forehand…. hoping next comp her mum and dad sign up to surf in the other divisions.

so much youth and energy in the Woopi boardriders right now
