float – new DVD

The Rip Curl “search” series from the 90′s has made somewhat of a comeback with this latest DVD “Float”.
Through the late 90′s Rip Curl were on to something real good with their search movies. They captured some amazing lineups, incredible surfing (Tom Curren at his best) and most of all they had that “surf travel feel” nailed to the floor.
Float is the latest DVD to hit the shelves and it’s theme is pretty simple: 6 months on a boat (a very nice boat) travelling through Indonesia finding some new waves and surfing some of the well-known favourites along the way.

So as you can imagine the waves are flawless (particularly one empty golden wave, which has to be close to the most perfect wave shot on film) Its endless barrel footage is mixed up well with great angles from the water, boat and land. The budget must have been fairly healthy as there is sometimes multiple angles of the same wave and it is all shot with the very best equipment.
The surfing is on the money with Owen Wright been the standout for me although Dean Brady probably gets the best of the barrrels (pretty sure he spent the most time on the boat)

The head of this production is legendary stills photog Andrew Buckley. He swapped hats for a while to produce this film project and he doesn’t disappoint. But it wasn’t just him doing the shooting there was a host of talented lensman making this thing sing.
If you need inspiration to go surf indo waves this will have you booking your ticket before the closing credits roll. A well shot movie with well… pumping waves. CHECK THE TRAILER BELOW
