I remember the Christmas morning as a 15 year old when me and my brother un-wrapped the surf film Momentum. Little did we know that this VHS movie would be the biggest game changer in surfing movie history. We must have watched that thing 50 times over the next year and we were introduced to a world of punk music as a result. Taylor Steele had made his mark straight off the bat. It wasn’t perfect filming, he didn’t use the best cameras going around, but what the film did have was freshness…. new surfers, new music and it was bursting with raw energy. It wasn’t only us that were hooked, it took the whole world by storm. Kelly, Rob, Dorian and Ross Williams were all turned overnight hero’s. But it wasn’t only the surfing, bands like Pennywise, Bad Religion and Sprung Monkey got the best exposure through surf films that anyone had ever had or had since. That was 20 years ago….. and now its their anniversary!!

To celebrate they are going on tour with the film and leading band Sprung Monkey….. Its giving me shivers just thinking about it!! I’m frothing to see this night go off and the first stop for the Momentum / Sprung Monkey tour is COFFS HARBOUR!!! yep the crew at the Plantation Hotel are hosting them Wednesday the 29th February. This will be a night to remember for all surf fans, especially the ones who grew up with the Momentum era…. best thing about it is the cast are still killing it 20 years on. Kelly is still world champ. Dorian is surfing the biggest and best waves around the globe, Rob Machado is making his high budget cruiser films and Taylor Steele has gone into some of the most beautifully shot travelling films that have ever been made. On top of that most the bands are still rocking out!!!

Sprung Monkey…. still producing epic tunes all these years on…… Can’t wait!!
