The Shiraz surfboard

What qualities do you look for in a new surfboard?? Is it speed? Is it response, something fresh, exciting, flow?? All of these things I suppose, but the one thing I want in a new board is an increased desire to surf. The “Shiraz” model shaped by Flanagan surfboards provided me with all of the above.

wide outline.. that is built for speed but still has the performance gears built in
My first surf on this board was in 2-3 foot junky conditions. I planned to only surf for an hour, but that hour quickly turned into 3.5 hours, I couldn’t go in! Every wave I discovered something new I liked about this speed machine. I was hooked from the start and have loved riding this board in the weeks since.
It’s not really your standard short board. The Shiraz in the shaper’s words is “The ultimate all-round performer in 1-5ft waves. Super fast and responsive, to be ordered 4-5 inches shorter than your normal board

Ashley Burns tweaking the Shiraz model at a Coffs beachie

I’m tipping it’s the perfect Coffs beachie board. It has get up and go to get across fat sections, but when the wave stands up, you can go top to bottom on it. It also holds in well in the hollow stuff.
Unlike some short boards, this shape allows the average surfer to get speed in parts of the wave that you would normally struggle getting a regular board moving in, But its not just for the average punter, some of the coast’s best surfers like John Craig, James Athorn, Ashley Burns, Trent Munro and John Laurie to name just a few are all calling this their go to board for waves up to 5 foot.

The Shiraz can be set up as just a thruster or you can get 3 options and run it as a Quad, Thruster or a five finner. I went for this option as I love riding quad fishes, it makes the board even more interesting

If you are looking for a short board that paddles better, takes care of the fat sections, gives you a whole lot more speed and increases your surf time and length of ride then the Shiraz model from the Flanagan stable is worth investigating.
