Thirty Thousand is a epic surf film made about two brothers who go on a massive surfing odyssey from Casablanca to Cape town. This film fully captures the spirit and adventure of down to earth surf travel. No expensive boat charters or lavish hotel rooms. Just two mates a 4WD troopie, loads of petrol and a stack of boards. The fact that these dudes aren’t world class surfers just makes it that more real and relatable to watch. When the “Pro surfers” try to capture this surf travel adventure style movie, they always seem to come off looking so staged. The filming and production of this movie is world-class. Beautiful use of light and the editing is super tight with an amazing soundtrack.
I want to see more movies made like this. This is where surf films are at their best. They have the travel aspect, they find spots that have never been surfed before, The landscapes and fill shots are just lush and above all it makes you wanna pack of the car and go exploring for waves yourself. These guys truly nailed a perfect little surf travel film here, one that will inspire many.
