Still up on the far north coast of NSW today and it’s on the pump! finally the east coast has dried up, the winds have gone offshore and the ocean colour is returning to its former glory. Glaring yellow rays of light pushed over the backs of some beautiful clean point waves… a great sight, one that I would be happy waking up to every morning…. from what I’ve heard Coffs has some sweet waves as well, on the road back home later today, stoked to see some quality returning!!

Coming in from sunny Byron Bay this morning!! apart from spending a few days cruising around this beautiful north coast town we are here to attend our good friends Brett Caller and Emma Locandro’s wedding. If you are even a half regular follower of our website you would have no doubt seen Brett’s surfing cross our pages many times…. rad surfer of all sorts of boards and an absolute champion lad. So far the weather is spot on with sunshine and a light east wind…please no thunder storms today Huey! Brett was out was out at the Pass early this morning with his brother and mum, sharing some tiny peelers on the inside bank, he’s just gone back to his pad to sort out his vowels. All the best you two, its gonna be a tops day! (that’s Brett on the nose in todays main shot)

That yellow ball that came up over the horizon today certainly didn’t go un-noticed. I’m betting it was the most appreciated sunrise and morning start for sometime. Everyone I spoke to today made mentioned of our long lost friend the Sun!! straight away you see people’s moods lift, the roos were bouncing around, birds are chirping, the world is all good again… haahha, starting to sound like Im re-sighting lyrics from “The Sound of Music” Anyway bloody good to get some vitamin D intake happening. The waves at backbeaches were okay too. It was the cleanest lines of swell we have seen in ages, only around the chest to shoulder high mark, but more than enough to get ya out there in the sunshine….

The weather isn’t much better but the waves are on the improve. There were a few fun ones over the weekend with some new sandbars forming due to the flooding rain pushing truckloads of sand out through the creeks, estuaries and off the sand-dunes. The beaches will take some time to recover from this, at the moment they are looking really dirty and un-inviting. Maybe thats why there were only a couple of people on the dawn patrol today. After checking 3 beaches I finally found a handful of diehards getting a tiny amount of joy out of a junky low-tide peak… not that inspiring but worth a paddle ..

Hope everyone had a beaut Australia Day yesterday. Lots of flooding rain, stationary waves, rivers where there shouldn’t be rivers and mud slides were happening on the Coffs coast. Today’s looking much brighter, it hasn’t rained since just before dawn (some sort of record for this week) I even got a photograph of the sun this morning (pumped!!) The beaches don’t look like they used to though, With creeks and rivers spewing water, sand and debris out into the ocean, outlets have widened, water has dis-coloured and sand has moved. Should be interesting to see what sort of sandbars form as a result of all this. I reckon there could be some beach beach hollowness at some random spots up and down the coastline. Just need a change in wind direction and we will be back in business.

Solitary Islands surf school are now taking bookings for their term 1 surf groms program. First times to kick off the season will be 9-10.30am or 12-1.30pm on Saturday at Woolgoolga beach starting 4th Feb (there will also be a 11th Feb intake) The 8 week course is $170 for first time surf groms (they will get the special surf grom pack including t-shirts, rashies, toys and Backpack) or $160 for the groms they have already been before. Lucky I got the camera out for a little bit over the weekend, because there’s no way it would be wanting to be anywhere else but tucked up inside its bag today. There were patches of fun waves and patches of sunlight over the weekend, but all that has now given way t0 an almighty east wind gale complete with skin piercing rain. Yeah not the best day to take the dog for a walk along the beach really. get used to it folks….looks like its gonna be with us for the week!

The east-swell push has backed off this morning and has given way to a peaky little south-east swell. Semi protected corners were throwing up some fun waves on the early morning high tide. Pockets of sunshine warmed the back and kept the coolish south winds from taking away that summer edge. Nice morning to be oceanside for sure. Similar conditions look likely throughout the weekend…. have good one!
