Local shredder John Craig went through the junior series with Dean Morrison when they were wee tackers, so when the latest profile movie on Deano came out called “A Dingo’s tale” I thought who better to review the film than me mate Johnny. What follows is his account of this fresh new flick.
above is our guest reviewer John Craig…. he knows a thing or two about good barrels
When I first heard about Dingo’s profile movie I thought it would be just like every other profile movie out there, featuring plenty of footage from the Mentawis and loads of Air reverse’s. How wrong I was. A Dingos Tale is a well made, brutally honest look into the life of Dean Morrison.
His journey from the slums of Coolangatta to the top of the surfing world and more recently, the depths of depression, is not only a remarkable one but also a story that a lot of people wouldn’t know. Apart from the great insight into Dingos life, A Dingos Tale also reminds you of how good a surfer Dingo is! Yes there are some insane airs but more importantly there are a lot of massive tubes! It might not be a great pre-surf pshyc flick, but the message it sends is awesome. No matter what life throws at you, surfing and great friends will always help you to reach the other side.
Not your everyday surf movie, I dig it. 8/1O
