Golden Breed is a company that gets behind the joy of been soooo into the ocean and surfing that nothing else matters. They like summer days and golden sunsets. Their slogan is “ride em all” so having Harley Ingleby as their number one team rider makes perfect sense.

The surf shirt

A Golden Breed’s surf shirt is the latest edition to their range of surfwear. This new surf shirt is due to hit the stores in mid July and they have given us the opportunity to test out their product first hand.

Long gone are the days where surfers paddled out in tight rashies. The pro’s started surfing with T-Shirts a while ago, so now everyone does. But what if your regular tees rubs a nasty rash into your neck or under your arms? well you can just suck it up and think, well I look cool so it don’t matter or your could get yourself a surf shirt like this new Golden Breed number..

Surf shirts aren’t unique to Golden Breed; a few brands have different versions of these. What Golden Breed have done is use similar polyester material to a regular rashie, this allows for ultra quick drying, so you can go surfing, get all wet and salty and by the time you have walked back to your car, had a chat with your mates your surf shirt is pretty much dry and can double as a regular tee. When I took it out for a surf it felt great in the water, I have been wearing a wetsuit lately, so it was good to free the arms up a bit, while I was a little cold with the winter winds blowing I did stay out for an hour and half paddling against a strong rip for most of the surf and at no stage did the material give me any rash. When I came in I stayed out in the sunshine for about 30 minutes and the shirt was pretty much dry (I’m tipping it would be much quicker in summer or in Indo this winter).

You can get away with wearing this shirt as an everyday type tee. Even knowing it is made from the polyester  material is appears normal and feels just like a regular Tee. I have worn it for two days while just out and about and it felt really comfortable, although we are in the cooler months and I wonder how well it would breath when it gets some serious heat on them

The look of em

The logo and branding is not all that subtle. Maybe they could have pulled that back a bit, but on the other hand if you are proud of your product why not flaunt it?

The navy version of this shirt for me is way better than the white. The white tends to look more like a rash shirt, but this would be just personal taste. As far as I know it is only available in the two colours.

Sum up

It’s definitely a great edition to the back of the van. Obviously it will get more use in the warmer months, but with many crew heading to Indo in the next few months this would be an ideal shirt to slip in the board bag. You could pretty much live in a couple of these on a boat trip.
