Under the sun is the newly released video from Cyrus Sutton, the ultra talented film-maker behind the movie “Stoked n Broke” and the man behind the epic surf website “Kordoroy TV” This movie is focused squarely on Byron Bay and the Gold Coast and how much of a contrast the two places are even thou they are only one hour apart.
Cyrus shot this movie all on 16mm
Rabbit Bartholomew (from the Gold Coast) puts across the “surfing is a sport” idea and everything is about competition while Nat Young argues that surfing is unique to itself and can’t possibly labelled as a sport… “it’s so much more than that” and that’s hard to argue with (film-maker Cyrus Sutton keeps it very neutral and I would thing makes a point not to steer the argument towards soul surfing over competition…true journalist)
Busy pointbreaks up north… and for good reason.. pumping!!
Interesting characters pop up throughout the film with archival footage of MP on the gold coast points and plenty of current surfing by the likes of Dean Morrison, Beau Young and standout performances by Dave Rastovich. Dave section in the movie steels the show, I could watch this guy surf all day long and he seems to be enjoying his life as a free surfer in Byron Bay and why wouldn’t you?
This is a classy doco style surf film that gets you thinking as well as stoked up… pick it up online at Garage entertainment HERE
